Curiosity is the natural and free desire to learn that all innovators possess. If students have to grow into productive and creative innovators, then parents and teachers must ensure they learn to be curious. Children are born curious. At the same time, curiosity is a delicate thing. The existing standardized testing system demands a common objective for all students (To demonstrate proficiency) and extracts a high price for failure, teachers are often forced to act against the natural curiosity of their students. Any distractions must be discouraged. Students must be encouraged to explore the ideas that occur naturally.
Do not worry. For a teacher or a parent wanting to foster creativity in children, there is hope. In the long run, policy changes are needed, but teachers can promote curiosity within the existing system.
Training of teachers is crucial to enable them to help children develop a lifelong passion for learning and empower themselves and their curiosity in a positive way by:
Maintaining relationships through collaboration and adapting to their requirements Nurturing a free and safe environment Encouraging children to determine the pace and direction of learning Supporting children to follow what interests them Promoting curious behavior Providing opportunities to children for exploration, queries, and risk-taking Identifying and acknowledging children who ask questions, and are responsive to new ideas Learning through action Delivering examples, lessons, and environments to nurture a curiosity for learning and reading. Communicating short and long-term educational planning with children, focusing on the significance of learning, not only for academic or professional growth but also for the joy of learning.
Any quality time spent with children is an investment in a bank. Teachers and parents are two pillars in students’ life; their balance of support and care could transform the life of a student. Effective communication, mutual respect, and advice are the best methods to deal with children. If a child comes up with a new idea, we must respond positively which would help in enhancing their creativity.
